Bahamas Backroads Villa offers bonefish fans excellent bonefishing options and one of the best kept secrets in the Abacos. From the shores of the Bahamas Backroads Villa property the expansive flats of Robinson's Bight means that you're just a few minutes from fly fishing action. Bonefish run as large as seven or eight pounds and have double digit size fish have been landed. However you like your bonefishing the inshore waters around our rental villa places you within easy reach of some of the finest bonefish flats you'll see in all of the Bahamas.

Beyond the immediate shoreline the extensive Robinson Bight estuary spreads out into a labyrinth of small islands, creeks, mangroves and blue holes where you can find not only fish but plenty of solitude. The two sea kayaks that come with the house offer one of the most rewarding ways to venture unobtrusively into this tidal estuary, which is also a nesting ground for a variety of cranes and stork. Each of these island's shorelines in this area attract feeding bonefish - enough to keep a group of flyfishers intrigued and happily challenged for the duration of their stay.

Fly Fishing Guides

Not surprisingly, Abaco island is home to excellent fly fishing guides who know the fishing waters intimately. Many of our rental villa guests choose to hire a fly fishing guide from nearby Cherokee, who will provide a flats boat and show you around mile after mile of flats and reefs where the fish are working. A third option is to hire a boat in Marsh Harbour and make the 45-minute trip down inside the barrier islands and to the dock at the house. With the rental boat an added bonus is on offer as it takes only 15 minutes to reach deep blue ocean water where schools of sailfish, Wahoo, dolphin, tuna and other pelagic species roam.

Five miles from the Bahamas Backroads villa lies another relatively undiscovered bonefish flat in the likes of Cherokee Sound. Again, local guides from Cherokee and surrounding areas who have plied these water since near infancy, understand where this crystal clear sea comes alive with schools of big bonefish.
Due west of the villa is the vast bonefishing Mecca known as The Marls, where the bonefish might not come in the size of Robinson's Bight but often host impressive numbers of fish.

The Bahamas Backroads villa offers as many as eight anglers a range of options in accommodation. The house includes four bedrooms (air conditioned), two full baths, two kitchens. There are also a living room, dining room, screened porch, screened barbecue pit and game room. In addition, for an additional fee, optional daily house cleaning and cooking services can be provided.

Fly Fishing Tip...
February through June are good times for bonefish and July into the beginning of August can be more difficult on the flats. The flats will warm up quickly during the day and you will find most of your fish mudding in the deeper, weedier and cooler water just off the flat. This time can be very productive. You will also find tarpon here during the warmer months and as August wanes, bonefish will come up onto the shallower flats in increasing numbers all the way through November. As waters begin to cool in late fall, bones will reverse themselves and swim out into deeper water. Into mid December, you can see the water warming for a few weeks, bringing the bones back onto the flats. Planning fishing trips around the new moon, or a few days after a full moon will generally make for more productive fishing.
